Climate Data
Clean climate data for every US county and the world, updated monthly.
Monthly temperature and precipitation for every US county since 1895, with normals, anomalies and rankings, plus the global temperature and greenhouse-gas records. Free JSON, CSV and Parquet downloads and an open API.
What you get
-
Plain files over HTTPS
Each series for each place as a small JSON or CSV file, plus every dataset as one CSV or Parquet file. No key or signup.
-
Versions you can cite
Every update gets a version id, and a pinned URL always returns the same data. The first version of each month is kept for good, so results stay reproducible.
-
Checked before publishing
Each update is validated against its contract. If a check fails, the last good version stays live.
-
Licenses up front
Every dataset names its source, its license, the exact credit line and whether commercial use is allowed.
Datasets
All 6 datasets-
Monthly atmospheric CO2
Monthly mean atmospheric carbon dioxide at Mauna Loa Observatory (1958 to present) and the global marine-surface average (1979 to present), with the seasonal-cycle-removed trend.
-
County climate report card
Monthly average, maximum and minimum temperature and precipitation for every US county (the contiguous US from 1895, Alaska from 1925, Hawaii from 1991), each with its 1991-2020 normal, the anomaly from that normal and its rank among all years for that calendar month.
-
Global surface temperature
Monthly global and hemispheric surface temperature anomalies from NASA GISTEMP v4 (1880 to present, relative to 1951-1980) and the Met Office HadCRUT5 analysis (1850 to present, relative to 1961-1990, with a 95% confidence range). The two series use different baselines.
-
Global methane and nitrous oxide
Monthly global mean atmospheric methane (from July 1983) and nitrous oxide (from January 2001) at the marine surface, from NOAA's global air sampling network, with the seasonal-cycle-removed trend.
-
State and national climate
Monthly average, maximum and minimum temperature and precipitation for each US state and the contiguous United States (from 1895; Alaska from 1925, Hawaii from 1991), each with its 1991-2020 normal, the anomaly from that normal and its rank among all years for that calendar month.
-
World capitals climate
Monthly air temperature at the capital of each country from NASA POWER (MERRA-2 reanalysis, 1981 to present), each with a 1991-2020 normal, the anomaly from that normal and its rank among all years for that calendar month, computed by climatedata.dev.
